What is a Rebate App? Do I Really Get my Money Back?

A rebate app is exactly what it sounds like - an app where you get rebates back for things you buy! It really is so simple (and probably is one of the more simple things to do in the world of deals and coupons).

There are lots of rebate apps you can use out there, but a few of my favorites are:

If you don’t have these rebate apps yet, feel free to click the links above and sign up! When you sign up using the links, you and I will both receive a little extra perk… if you know what I mean ($$$).

Let me walk you through the premise of each and how you can save money using these apps!

Ibotta

Ibotta is the most popular rebate app, and probably the one you would be most familiar with as a deals hunter.

The premise of Ibotta is easy. You find the store you plan to shop at, look through the rebates, find the items you want to buy, save the rebates to your account, and then once you have checked out in-store, you submit your physical receipt to Ibotta through the “redeem” button.

There are a few quirks to point out about Ibotta that I need to make sure you know about:

  • Always check the terms and conditions, some rebates cannot be given if you used a coupon for that item

  • You must submit a physical receipt to Ibotta, no screenshots or digital receipts are accepted

  • You CAN link your Walmart and Dollar General accounts to Ibotta, which means you will receive rebates for online orders

  • Ibotta can take away rebates whenever they please, so always be on the lookout for high value rebates

  • You can only cash out your money once you have reached $20 in rebates

All in all, Ibotta is highly user friendly and a great way to maximize savings!

Shopmium

Shopmium has just rebranded - it was previously Coupons.com. This is another fantastic rebate app with the same exact premise as Ibotta except it is not store specific! Any rebate on the app can be redeemed anywhere (unless there are specific exclusions). You just need to upload your physical receipt to Shopmium and you will receive the rebate as long as it does not go against the terms and conditions!

There are some interesting things about Shopmium that are worth noting:

  • Any rebate you successfully submit for, you will receive as a Paypal payout relatively quickly

  • Shopmium almost never allows for their rebates to overlap with coupons

  • The selection of rebates is much slimmer than other rebate apps

My favorite thing about Shopmium is that you receive your money back almost instantaneously. It makes deals shopping so much more gratifying!

Fetch Rewards

Fetch Rewards is much different than Ibotta or Shopmium. While you still receive rebates, you receive rebates on Fetch in the form of points. Once you gain enough points, you can redeem for gift cards.

The nice thing about Fetch, though, is you can link so many online accounts which will automatically be applied for points! Walmart, Amazon, and more.

If the place you purchased does not link to the Fetch app, you can submit your physical receipt here or have Fetch scan your e-receipts!

Per usual, let me point out some key items to note about the app:

  • Every receipt you submit will automatically give you 25 points

  • 1,000 points is the equivalent of $1

  • You receive money back in the form of gift cards

If you are consistent, Fetch is an easy way to rack up some rebates! Just connect your accounts and submit every single receipt, those points will pile up soon!
